Reggio Emilia Conference

"The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations, and richer their experiences."

The Reggio Emilia approach originated in the town and surroundings of Reggio Emilia in Italy by pedagogist Loris Malaguzzi out of a movement towards introducing a new methodology of teaching, one that would enhance a child’s learning experience and help them form a personality of their own. This innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education values the child as strong, capable and resilient; rich with wonder and knowledge. It is a pedagogy described as student-centered and constructivist that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments. This approach is hailed by educators as the world’s best practice in early childhood education.

Since the Reggio Emilia approach is a way of life and hence about the delivery rather than the curriculum, many pre-schools and primary education institutions around the world have been gaining momentum to practice being Reggio-inspired, using an adaptation of the approach specific to the needs of their communities.
