The Dailekh School Project is developing model classrooms that are setting new standards for learning in government schools. To strengthen the core activity, the program provides support in terms of teaching material; training for administrators, as well as guardians; building teaching resources; and developing and maintaining learning networks. The final beneficiaries, of course, are the students who will enjoy schools that look out for their overall development into responsible, curious, and creative citizens. The students form child clubs to learn and enjoy activities of their interest. Most importantly, the program encourages the government authorities in the district to take ownership of the work and achievements. This will, among other things, ensure accountability and continuity.
The Dailekh School Program addresses the issue of inclusion directly. Every a primary-age child of Dailekh is a beneficiary of this project, as all the schools are included. No child is left behind, as no one should be. Dailekh is one of the larger hill districts of Nepal, with a high level of poverty in all demographic categories. The focus on government schools ensures that those in the lower class bracket are included, including differentiation according to class, faith, language, ethnicity, and caste.
