Message from the board

Rato Bangala Foundation (RBF) has worked closely with private and public schools for over two decades to add value to education in Nepal. It strives to bring child-centered methodologies and hands-on learning into safe and enjoyable classrooms for children. Changing attitudes and behaviors of teachers and caregivers to foster them to become skilled, caring, and professional. RBF has trained over 10,000 teachers from many parts of the country, with teachers from various districts being the primary beneficiaries.

The work done by the Foundation is directly linked to meeting Goal 4, “Quality Education,” of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to meet the School Education Sector Plan (SESP)’s goal of “enhancing the relevance and quality of School Education”. RBF received the prestigious UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Education in 2012 for its work in enhancing the effectiveness of teachers.

Since the receipt of the award, RBF has added a focus of conducting educational conferences. The latest one being planned is titled ““Educating for the Future ” Enhancing the Relevance and Quality of School Education and it will be rolled out in December 2024. All conferences are done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, development partners and local businesses. Since 2023, RBF has also been conducting a series of conferences under the theme “Power of Parenting”, as the role of parents is paramount in the growth and development of the child.

RBF presently works with several mayors in municipalities across the country, focusing on early childhood education. Tehrathum, Gorkha, Kageshwori, Tarakeshwar, Phidim and Lalitpur are where programs are ongoing. This meaningful partnership is likely to ensure sustainability of efforts and therefore results. When listening skills, creativity, organization, caring for the community and curiosity are learned early, children will be served for a lifetime.

RBF uses the Rapid Neurodevelopmental Assessment (RNDA) as a tool to assess whether neurodevelopment of children from birth to 16 years is normal, or mildly, moderately, or severely impaired. This knowledge, when acted upon will ensure that children with mild and moderate impairments will revert to normal, thus reducing the incidence and prevalence of disabilities in Nepal.
RBF continues to work for the overall development of children with a focus on quality education by recognizing the crucial roles that teachers and parents play in a child’s development.
