Academic Training

RBF offers two accredited academic programs which impart vital teaching skills and enable trainees to pursue higher studies in education: Primary Teacher Training Program and Post-Graduate Diploma in Education.

1. Primary Teacher Training Program

The main objective of the twelve-month PTTP is to develop professional teachers for primary grades. The course is offered through the joint efforts of RBF, Kathmandu University and Bank Street College of Education.

Inspired by cooperation between Banking Street College of Education and Rato Bangala School dating back to 1992 and still in effect, the PTTP was designed to produce primary-level teachers well-versed in the various theories of child development and well-practiced in the classroom. After one year of training, they have had sufficient time to learn, observe, and implement highquality teaching and learning and are ready to set out on a successful teaching career.

As of April 2018, 318 teachers had participated and completed the program. Graduates of the program are widely sought after and have found good teaching positions all over Kathmandu valley and beyond.

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Education

Students who have a Bachelor’s degree and have completed the requirements for the PTTP can enroll at Kathmandu University for a fourth and final term. Successful candidates are awarded a PGDE degree. This term of work has three components:

The development of and issues related to primary education in Nepal.

Independent study: Students conduct research on a specific topic related to education.

Teacher training: Students plan and conduct a 12-hour teacher-training program for selected schools.
