Conceptual design and major components
- The project intervenes in three major areas—quality of teaching, materials support, and physical infrastructure— in order to enhance the performance of partner schools. Among other activities, it will improve teaching-learning approaches, create child-friendly environments in schools, and create libraries.
- The classrooms plays a significant role in facilitating interactive and activity-based learning, so that classrooms will be improved through provision or materials. Ongoing monitoring will ensure that the project is on track and suggest what improvements need to be made.
- Mixed qualitative and quantitative reporting will be used to analyze project outputs, outcomes and effectiveness
- Indicators assessed will include children’s learning achievement as well as enrolment, promotion, dropout, repetition and survival rates at the primary level.
The cluster approach is one of the project’s key implementation strategies. Under it, the schools and teachers within a cluster meet on a regular basis, share their best practices, plan together and learn from each other. This approach also enables students to have a similar learning environment in all schools, a fact which is particularly important when students graduate and move from primary to lower-secondary schools. This project is a partnership which provides for the pooling of schools, Village Development Committee, and District Education Office resources to achieve common goals. Joint planning, implementation and monitoring of activities will be carried out to promote ownership and sustainability of the best practices.
